Unlocking Thailand’s Charm: Potential 90-Day Visa for European Travelers!
Thailand, renowned for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture, is contemplating a significant visa policy change that could be a game-changer for European tourists. Currently, the country offers a 30-day visa exemption to visitors from over 60 nations, including European states.
Recent Developments:
In November, there were discussions about extending the visa-free stay to 60 days, but the proposal remained pending.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has officially recommended the government to extend the visa exemption to a generous 90 days for tourists from Europe and the United States, aiming to revitalize tourism.
TAT’s Vision:
Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, Deputy Governor of TAT for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, passionately supports this initiative.
The goal is to not only increase the average length of visits but also maximize spending per trip, targeting a 40% contribution to tourist revenue from these regions by 2024.
Impact on Tourism:
This proposal follows the success of a similar measure granted to Russian tourists, which significantly benefited the tourism sector.
In 2023, over 100,000 travelers, primarily from the US, UK, Sweden, and Germany, applied for 60-day tourist visas.
The expected extension of the visa-free period to 90 days could potentially add at least one million additional overnight stays across the country.
Stay Tuned:
The proposal is under consideration, and its approval could reshape the landscape of travel to Thailand.
